Faraday Dragon: Fostering collaboration and capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region
We discuss the challenges and lessons learned from an intense one-year journey to bring together established and emerging space entities from the Asia-Pacific region, culminating in successful UK Space Agency International Bi-lateral Phase 1 & 2 funding and the realisation of the Faraday Dragon APAC rideshare programme, led by BAE Systems and In-Space Missions Ltd (ISM). Travelling extensively throughout the region during 2023, ISM is now leading and supporting 9 international partners with 10 payloads from 5 countries, including the UK. The Faraday Dragon programme will deliver a high profile mission that includes local partners from government, academia and industry and demonstrates that the UK is a trusted and experienced partner for our allies in the region. It puts the UK at the forefront of future partnerships and procurement, boosts our export success, and showcases the UK’s world-leading space capabilities.
In this session, Peter Stocken will share his experience of leading this complex and fast-paced project from inception through to framework agreements– providing partners from Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand and the UK with cost-effective access to in-orbit capability.
