The underestimated threat of cyber attacks and how it affects national space capabilities

With the reduced costs to access space and the growing commercial opportunities in the space industry, cybercrime is on the rise. The volume of data from the satellites has increased enormously, raising concerns about the security and integrity of data transfer and storage between satellites and ground systems. The cyber intrusion on the satellites during the Ukraine conflict is a reminder to the space community that the cybersecurity provisions are crucial and if not mitigated, could broadly affect national security and global economic development. While international collaboration has become crucial, it has also raised questions about the involvement of commercial actors in the conflict.

This panel will discuss the importance of prioritising the security of space assets and how the space supply chain must adopt a security-first approach and work together to ensure the space assets are designed with proper security measures.
